Los Altos Hills is a tranquil incorporated town nestled above the city of Los Altos in the rolling Santa Cruz Mountain foothills. The first development in Los Altos Hills included summer retreats for some of the Bay Area’s wealthiest business magnates in the mid-20th century. More recently, this bucolic community has attracted many prominent tech figures. Elite residents are drawn to Los Altos Hills for its incredible space, privacy, and proximity to Silicon Valley.
 
Each home in Los Altos Hills is a unique architectural masterpiece. All lots in Los Altos Hills are required to be a minimum of one acre in size, and the community boasts some of the grandest residences in California. Nestled in the Santa Cruz Mountains foothills, Los Altos Hills offers stunning views across Silicon Valley to the San Francisco Bay. An 80-mile network of trails connects the neighborhood’s homes to the expansive open space preserves that sprawl across the mountains.
 
Los Altos Hills is regularly featured on lists of the United States’ most affluent communities. Residents include heavyweight tech figures such as Google’s Sergey Brin and Sundar Prachi, HP co-founder David Packard, and Yahoo!’s first CEO, Tim Koogle.
 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Local zoning regulations strictly protect Los Altos Hills’ enchanting rural atmosphere, and there is consequently no commercial development within the town. However, the city is directly adjacent to Los Altos, which features a six-block downtown area with over 150 businesses. Downtown Los Altos dining highlights include chic farm-to-table dining at Asa, mouthwatering Southwestern specialties at Los Altos Grill, fresh seafood at Rustic House Oyster Bar & Grill, and creative Indian cuisine at Amber India.
 

Things to Do

Los Altos Hills is a pastoral community surrounded by scenic open space preserves and hiking trails. Purissima Park is a pretty green space in the heart of Los Altos Hills with facilities including a dog park, a horse riding ring, and fields for baseball and soccer. Byrne Preserve covers a picturesque rolling area spanning more than 75 acres at the edge of Los Altos Hills. 
 
The adjacent Westwind Community Barn hosts horse boarding stables and a variety of equestrian events throughout the year. The Rhus Ridge Trail connects Los Altos Hills with other trails running through Rancho San Antonio County Park to Black Mountain. Rancho San Antonio County Park extends over 165 acres, while the connected Rancho San Antonio Preserve covers almost 4,000 acres with 24 miles of trails.
 
At Los Altos Hills’ southwestern edge, Foothills Park is a 1,400-acre open space with trails and campsites. Along Los Altos Hills’ eastern boundary with Los Altos, Redwood Grove Nature Preserve features more than six acres of an enchanting redwood forest. Redwood Grove Nature Preserve is the site of a popular summer camp and trails following the meandering path of the Adobe Creek.
 
At the western edge of Los Altos Hills, Palo Alto Hills Golf & Country Club is an exclusive members-only club with a magnificent 18-hole golf course. Los Altos Golf & Country Club features a picturesque 18-hole course originally designed by Tom Nicoll in 1923 and extensively renovated in 2004.
